Protection and Precision for RDI Technologies’ Iris M Camera System

July 20, 2026

Background

RDI Technologies develops advanced Motion Amplification® and vibration analysis systems used across aerospace & defense, manufacturing, utilities, mining, oil & gas, automotive, and telecom industries. The Iris M™ camera system enables engineers and technicians to visualize vibration patterns in real time, transforming how mechanical diagnostics are performed in the field.

As a precision imaging system deployed in demanding industrial environments, and even integrated with mobile robotic platforms such as Boston Dynamics' Spot, the Iris M required a rugged transport solution capable of withstanding shipping, travel, and field use while maintaining a professional presentation.

To achieve this, RDI Technologies partnered with Vol Case & Container, an authorized Pelican distributor specializing in turnkey protective packaging solutions.

The Challenge

Each deployment kit includes:

  • Multiple camera components
  • Mounting hardware
  • Cables and accessories

RDI Technologies needed a protective case solution that would:

  • Safeguard sensitive optical equipment during shipping and travel
  • Protect against water, dust, and vibration
  • Securely organize multiple components
  • Accommodate flexible configurations, as not all accessories are used for every application
  • Present a clean, professional appearance aligned with the Iris M brand

Because these systems are shipped directly to customers and carried by field technicians into industrial environments, durability and organization were critical.

The Solution

Vol Case & Container engineered a turnkey solution built around the Pelican 1450.

The Pelican 1450 was selected for its:

  • Compact footprint
  • Rugged IP-rated construction
  • Watertight and dustproof design
  • Durability during transport and field deployment
  • Brand alignment with other Pelican cases already used by RDI

Inside the case, a custom layered polyurethane (PU) foam insert was precision waterjet cut to provide secure component placement. The insert features:

  • Single-density layered construction
  • Dedicated cavities for cameras, hardware, and cables
  • Removable foam plugs to accommodate varying configurations
  • Finger cutouts for easy removal
  • Protective lid foam for additional shock absorption

The result is an organized system that immobilizes components during transit while allowing technicians to deploy equipment quickly in the field.

The Outcome

Since implementation, RDI Technologies has reported zero damage incidents related to shipping or transport of the Iris M system.

In addition to reliable protection, the solution provides:

  • Streamlined organization for the user
  • Faster equipment setup and breakdown
  • A professional presentation that reinforces the premium nature of the Iris M system
  • Standardization for ongoing production kits

By combining rugged Pelican protection with precision foam engineering, Vol Case delivered a turnkey packaging solution that protects sensitive imaging technology across a wide range of industrial applications, supported by its custom waterjet and CNC cut foam solutions.
